A remake of The Day of the Jackal (1973)
Synopsis
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes a living by committing high-profile murders. He soon meets his match in the form of a tough British intelligence officer who tracks him down in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. The novel “The Day of the Jackal” was set in 1963 and involved an assassination attempt on then-French President Charles de Gaulle. The series moves the setting to the present day. Spy/espionage/assassination movies have always been my favorite, from my early memories of James Bond to Mission Impossible and Jason Bourne, movies like Shooter, The Day of the Jackal (the original) and The Jackal, Leo the Professional and the list goes on.
It definitely creates an authenticitywhich is damned obvious
It’s just another great series in a long list of great series. With Eddie Redmayne in the lead and seriously, he’s phenomenal, this series is amazing. I’ve worked with guns most of my life, been around guns my whole life, and personally hold a firearms license – it’s very easy to see that they’ve called in subject matter experts and military personnel to advise them on this broadcast. The entire cast seems to get along well…except for one. I first saw Lashana Lynch in the latest James Bond film and to be honest, I didn’t find her performance to be anything special.

I actually thought she was terrible. Unlike previous actresses of color (if that was the intention) and let’s face it, she’s nowhere near the level of the excellent Halle Berry or even the legendary Grace Jones if you will. She came across as stiff, flat, uninspired, frankly uncredited and talentless. But I thought maybe she just sucked at James Bond, “give her another chance”. she sucks.

I don’t know what her profession was before she became an actress, but maybe she could consider going back to that. I think the casting choice for Lashana Lynch was downright bad. Personally, Idris Elba would have been an extremely wise choice for the role of an MI6 agent. If you need a British woman of color, Christine Adams is amazing! Damn, what can I say about Thandiwa Newton, SHE IS FANTASTIC!!!

If you can basically ignore the desperate Lashana Lynch, the show is great. Too bad it’s a miniseries and not a multi-season series that would be anything special. I think Eddie Redmayne should seriously consider another spy movie-style TV series because it’s fascinating to watch and this series would get a 10/10 if it weren’t for Lynch’s terrible casting choices. The new season of “The Silo” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
