Four kids make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that leads them to become lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Jude Law in "Skeleton Crew" and more stars from a galaxy far, far away. The holographic circus that entertains Neel’s little brothers is the same one that Chewbacca’s family watches in the infamous The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978). Featured in AniMat’s Wacky Cartoon Cast: Silly Old Deadly Bear (2022). I approach this review with caution, acknowledging that "Skeleton Crew" seems to be aimed at a younger audience. While kids might enjoy it, I found the first four episodes to be rather disappointing. The story lacks depth and feels more like a kids’ movie that jumps from place to place without much consequence. The war background feels shallow and the action sequences lack the impact they should have. The acting, while not terrible, could be stronger, especially considering the caliber of some of the cast members. Even Jude Law, at times, seems to be phoning things in. The production design is impressive, but it can’t save a story that feels slow-paced and ultimately pretty forgettable. Maybe the series will improve down the road, but based on my initial viewing, I remain unconvinced.
