Followed by Okrutne namjere (1999)
Synopsis
After a bullying incident at their elite college, step-siblings Caroline and Lucien decide to preserve their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. The direct-to-video sequel Okrutne namjere 2 (2000), in which Amy Adams replaced Sarah Michelle Gellar as Catherine Merteuil, was originally a scripted television series and was later remade into a feature film. Gellar would later reprise her role as Catherine in 2016 for the NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series.
Who cast the character?
What were they doing?! Lucien looks like a 12-year-old thrift store doll. There is no way a 20-year-old girl would find him attractive or irresistible.
He is truly insufferable
The girl who plays the Vice President’s daughter is not very convincing. Terrible casting. Terrible setting.
Maybe then it would have appealed to a younger audience without comparing it to the movie
Terrible casting. I don’t think they should have called it “Cruel Games” or used the names of the characters from the movie. None of these actors compare to Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon or Selma Blair.
